Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly IS sex therapy?

Sex therapy is talk therapy (nothing hands-on, we use our words and maybe the occasional diagram) with someone who has specialized training and expertise in subjects related to sexuality. Some common topics are desire problems, mismatched sex drives in partnerships, physical difficulties with arousal, pain with sex, the impact of trauma and religion on sexual health, sexual behaviors that feel out of control, or aspects of a person’s sexuality or gender that feel shameful or secret.

Can you do “regular” therapy too?

Absolutely! Many of my clients have had symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, OCD, personality disorders, parenting challenges, sleep issues- you name it, I’m happy to either provide treatment for it or refer out to qualified providers if I don’t feel I’m the best person to help.

Where do I have to be to see you?

You are welcome to reside anywhere and be my client- however, due to current licensing requirements, your physical body needs to be in either North Carolina or Florida (https://flhealthsource.gov/telehealth/) in order for you to attend virtual sessions. If you are out of state during a scheduled session time, we will need to cancel and reschedule.

Do you see couples?

Yes! I feel very honored to work with partners (and polycules/triads/whatever language applies) on the challenges coming up for them. I am self-pay only for relationship therapy, as the vast majority of partnership issues are based in things like communication challenges and codependency, which are not diagnosable mental or physical illnesses, and are therefore unethical to bill health insurance for.

Do you take insurance?

Currently I am paneled with Aetna, and am awaiting approval to accept BCBS and Medicare. I also accept self-pay at the rates listed below. You are welcome to submit a Superbill to your insurance (I can help if you’re not familiar with the process) and seek some reimbursement of my fee through your out-of-network benefit. You can also use HSA/FSA funds to pay for individual therapy.

What do you charge?

My self-pay rates are as follows:

$150 for a 60 minute intake session
$135 for 55 minute follow-up sessions (couples or individuals)
$110 for 45 minutes
$75 for 30 minutes
$210 for 90 minute extended sessions

If you are using insurance, copays and deductibles vary but I can usually provide an estimate, and more accurate rates can be obtained by calling your insurance carrier directly at the number on the back of your card.
